Hirsch, Samson Raphael
(20 jun. 1808, Hamburgo–31 dic. 1888, Francfort del Meno, Alemania).

Erudito judío alemán. Fue rabino en Oldenburg, Emden, Nikolsburg y Francfort del Meno. En sus Diecinueve cartas de Ben Uziel (1836), enunció su sistema neoortodoxo, que contribuyó a que el judaísmo ortodoxo fuese viable en la Alemania del s. XIX. Preconizó combinar la enseñanza estricta de la Torá con la educación secular moderna y argumentó que los judíos ortodoxos debían separarse del resto de la comunidad judía para así defender sus tradiciones. Entre sus numerosas obras se encuentran los comentarios del Pentateuco y un manual ortodoxo sobre judaísmo.
